Dear Franklin Elementary School Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at Franklin Elementary School!!! On behalf of the entire staff, we would like to offer a warm welcome to our newly enrolled Franklin families and a wholehearted welcome back to our returning students.

Our first day of school for students is planned for Tuesday, September 1, 2020.  For our full reopening plan, the school day will run from 8:05 AM until 12:05 PM from September 1 – September 11, 2020, and our normal 3:05 PM dismissal time will resume on Monday, September 14. Students who order lunches will be provided a “Grab & Go” lunch to be opened once they get home on our shortened days. All students will also have a morning snack time, mask breaks, and recess or activity time with their classroom cohort every day.

Our 2020-21 School Calendar, Grade Level Recommended Supply Lists, Event Calendar, Student Handbooks, food service information, school safety protocols, and parent support information on COVID can all be viewed on the updated Franklin Elementary School website, www.franklinschoolct.org. The Prekindergarten through Grade 4 teacher assignments have already been shared through letters and emails from the classroom teachers. Homeroom assignments for the middle school are: Mr. Anglim (Gr 5), Mrs. Flaherty (Gr 6), Mr. Baran (Gr 7), and Mr. Zaklukiewicz & Mrs. Mether (Gr 8).

The bus company is working diligently during this challenging time to create a bus schedule for all of our students. Thank you for your patience as this work is done.  As soon as the schedule is complete, we will post it to the school website and send a follow-up email to all families. An explanation of our new parent drop-off and pick-up procedures will be included.

We’d like to welcome the newest members of our FES community: Mrs. Hayes (Gr 6-8 science), Ms. Kogut (Gr 6-8 Math and Algebra), Mrs. Russell (Special Education), Mrs. O’Donnell (Intern counselor), and an expanded group of wonderful paraprofessionals to assist our students and staff with academic support, bus runs, and various duties to follow our new safety protocols.

Upcoming Events:

  • The FES administrative team will be hosting a Zoom meeting on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 7 PM to answer any questions you may have about our full reopening plan. Zoom Login-Click Here, Meeting ID: 268-042-8482, Passcode: together
  • New Student Orientation: Friday, August 28 at 9:30 AM.  We will meet at the gym entrance and take a tour of the school. We will be following the mask wearing and social distancing practices during our tour.  Each student may be accompanied by one parent.
  • K-8 Transition Day: Monday, August 31. The format, locations, and times can be viewed by clicking here.

A Student Agenda will be provided to all students in grades 5-8. We ask that parents work as part of our team in monitoring the proper use of the agenda while we are back in school to maximize student performance and to strengthen communication between home and school. This partnership, along with using PowerSchool, is an effective way to monitor your child’s performance, attendance, and class schedule. If you do not have login credentials for PowerSchool, please email cmuttart@franklinschoolct.org to make a request.

On behalf of the FES staff, we all look forward to a great year WITH you and your student!!! Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. For now, please enjoy the last week of your summer.

Sincerely,

Mr. Greg Keith, Principal  & Mrs. Lori Goldstein, Special Services
